May in LA

They call it sunny California, but not necessarily warm California. The average high on May 1st in Los Angeles is 73 degrees. Average low is 56 degrees.

The ceremony and cocktail hour will be outside so please don't forget a sweater or jacket.

Ha! I live on the East Coast. I'll be fine.

Wanna catch a cold in LA? Don't be that guy.

Brunch and Baseball AKA Day One of the Blankenhorns

Don't leave the Best Coast too soon! We hope you'll stick around for May 2nd, 2010. We will be hosting brunch at our place in Echo Park at 10:30 AM and then heading to the Dodgers Game (a short drive/20 minute walk) at 1PM.

Tickets will cost approximately $30. Email punchandcookies@gmail.com if you want to reserve your seats and remember to wear blue and white. Los Doyers!!!

A Special Message for Smokers

Do you enjoy a Camel Light before you have a bite? Take a toke break on your lunch break? Smoke a Swisher with your Schnapps?

If so, we have some unfortunate news.

We are getting married at a venue owned by the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation. Therefore, smoking is prohibited. Technically, there is no smoking in the entire park, but our wedding planner says it will be possible to exit the gate into the adjacent parking lot for a discreet smoke.

We apologize in advance and ask for your understanding and cooperation.

TRANSPORTATION FAQs

Do I need a car?
No. If you are staying downtown, a taxi from LAX is $46.50 flat rate (group) to downtown LA. OR, you can take a $7 shuttle bus directly from LAX to Union Station. From Union Station, Kyoto Grand is a 10 minute walk or a $5 cab.

I want to go to the beach. Can I walk there from Kyoto Grand?
No. You cannot walk to the beach. It is 13 miles away. If you want to go to the beach you should rent a car.

I want to go to Hollywood. Can I walk there from Kyoto Grand?
No. You cannot walk to Hollywood. It is 8 miles away. BUT it is just a few quick train stops from Union Station to Hollywood.

Kyoto Grand isn't near the beach or Hollywood?!
No. Los Angeles is a big city.

Okay. But is there anything near Kyoto Grand?
Yes. Olivera Street (where LA began) is a few blocks away, as is Chinatown, the Disney Concert Hall, and numerous museums including the MOCA And it's a quick bus ride or train ride to Hollywood. It's also just 2 miles from the bride and groom's neighborhood and wedding venue.

I plan to get shit-faced before, during, and after your wedding. Should I drive?
No. If you stay at Kyoto, Josh and Jennifer are providing shuttle service to and from the wedding for your drunk ass.

WHERE TO STAY

Numerous park benches, hostels, and --YES! -- even Skid Row are all within an easy commute of our wedding.

However, of all these delicious options, we recommend the Kyoto Grand Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles' hip Little Tokyo neighborhood:

Bride and groom are staying here and you should, too. We have secured a special discounted room rate of $129/night. We have also negotiated to waive all extra person fees which means up to four people can stay in one room for the same low, low price. The easiest way to book is by clicking the link below:

Or, you can call 213-629-1200 and ask for the Nashorn-Blankenship wedding rate

Additionally, our guests receive a 50% discount on parking at this hotel which brings the cost down to $12/night self parking or $15/night for valet. Also, if you stay at Kyoto, you will receive free shuttle service to and from the wedding.

Really don't want to stay there but want to be close? There is also a Super 8 that is right down the street (1/4 mile) from Grace Simons Lodge.

It is approximately $100/night with free parking.
